Updated October 2025 – Finding ways to earn a bit of extra money is on everyone’s mind these days. The CashWalk app claims you can make money just by walking, but there’s a lot more to this story. After extensive research and looking at real UK user experiences, I’m giving you the full truth about whether CashWalk is worth your time in 2025.
Quick verdict: Whilst CashWalk is technically legit, it’s become increasingly problematic. The redemption thresholds have skyrocketed from 3,750 coins to as high as 50,000 coins for a £5 voucher in some cases, making it nearly impossible to cash out. I’d recommend looking at alternatives like Macadem, Sweatcoin, or Evidation instead.

What is CashWalk?
CashWalk is a free walking app available on iOS and Android that claims to reward you for your physical activity. You earn coins by walking, which can then be redeemed for gift cards from retailers like Amazon, Tesco, and ASDA.
The concept is simple: link the app to your phone’s step counter, walk as you normally would, and watch the coins add up. It’s one of many “get paid to walk” apps that have popped up in recent years, promising passive income just for staying active.
CashWalk launched in the UK in 2022 and initially seemed like a decent way to earn a few quid whilst getting your steps in. However, things have changed dramatically since then.
How Does CashWalk Work?
CashWalk works by tracking your steps through your phone’s built-in pedometer (Apple Health on iPhone or Google Fit on Android). Here’s the basic process:
- Download the app – Available free on the App Store or Google Play
- Create an account – Sign up with your email address
- Enable step tracking – Give the app permission to access your step data
- Walk and earn coins – Earn 1 coin for every 100 steps you take
- Complete bonus activities – Play games, scratch cards, watch ads, and complete surveys for extra coins
- Redeem for gift cards – Once you hit the threshold, exchange coins for vouchers
Sounds straightforward, right? Well, here’s where it gets complicated.
The Daily Coin Limit
CashWalk has a daily limit of 100 coins per day from walking alone. This means you need to walk 10,000 steps daily just to hit that maximum. If you walk 20,000 steps, you still only get 100 coins – there’s no reward for going above and beyond.
The Lock Screen Issue
Here’s something crucial that many users don’t realise until it’s too late: CashWalk requires you to enable lock screen ads for the app to properly track your steps when your phone is locked.
If you disable these ads (and trust me, they’re intrusive), the app won’t count your steps unless your phone is unlocked. This is a major drawback, as most people walk with their phones in their pockets or bags.
Additional Ways to Earn
Beyond walking, CashWalk offers several other ways to boost your coin balance:
- Daily Lucky Boxes – Open 3 chests per day (watch an advert for each) with a chance to win up to 10,000 coins
- Scratch Cards – Play a scratch card game daily for bonus coins
- Games – Download and play partner games to earn points
- Surveys & Quizzes – Complete surveys for additional coins
- Shopping – Earn rewards when shopping at participating retailers
- Referrals – Invite friends and earn 100 coins when they join

Is CashWalk Legit or a Scam?
This is the million-pound question, and the answer isn’t straightforward.
Technically, yes, CashWalk is a legitimate app. It’s not an outright scam – people do receive gift cards, and the company does pay out. However, calling it “legit” doesn’t tell the whole story.
The Major Problems
The app has become increasingly problematic over the past year, and here’s why many UK users now consider it borderline scammy:
1. Constantly Increasing Redemption Thresholds
This is the biggest issue. When CashWalk first launched in the UK, you needed around 1,750-3,750 coins for a £5 gift card. That was achievable in about a month of regular walking.
But here’s what’s happened since:
- Started at 1,750-3,750 coins for £5
- Increased to 5,000 coins
- Then jumped to 10,000 coins
- Then rose to 12,500 coins
- Then skyrocketed to 20,000 coins
- Some users now report thresholds of 40,000-50,000 coins for a £5 voucher
These changes often happen without warning, and frequently occur just as users are approaching the redemption threshold. Multiple UK users on Trustpilot report being close to cashing out, only to find the goal posts moved overnight.
2. Inconsistent Thresholds Between Users
Bizarrely, different users report different redemption thresholds at the same time. One person might need 20,000 coins whilst their friend only needs 10,000. There’s no transparency about why this happens, which feels incredibly unfair.
3. Poor Customer Service
Users report sending multiple emails to CashWalk support with no response. If you’re having issues with missing coins or redemption problems, good luck getting help.
4. The App Was Discontinued for Android (Temporarily)
In early 2025, CashWalk disappeared from the Google Play Store for UK Android users, leaving people unable to access their earned coins. It has since returned, but many users lost their balances during this period.
What UK Users Are Saying
The reviews paint a concerning picture. On Trustpilot UK, CashWalk has a rating of just 1.4 out of 5 stars based on 78 reviews. Here are some common complaints from British users:
- “Started at 3,750 coins for £5, now it’s 50,000 – absolute con”
- “Every time I get close to cashing out, they increase the threshold”
- “Waste of time and battery life”
- “The lock screen ads are intrusive and download apps without permission”
- “Customer service doesn’t respond to emails”
- “I’ve been walking for 4 months and still can’t cash out”
However, there are a few positive reviews from people who managed to cash out before the thresholds increased dramatically. Some users report earning £50-300 in vouchers when the app first launched, but these success stories are increasingly rare.

My Honest Assessment
Is CashWalk technically legit? Yes. Will you actually earn meaningful money from it? Probably not, especially with current redemption thresholds.
At 100 coins per day maximum, reaching 20,000 coins would take 200 days (over 6 months) of walking 10,000 steps daily. For 50,000 coins, you’re looking at 500 days (nearly 1.5 years) just for a £5 voucher.
That’s not a reasonable return for your time, battery life, and the annoyance of intrusive ads.
How Much Can You Actually Make with CashWalk?
Let’s do the maths with the current UK redemption thresholds:
Scenario 1: Walking Only (20,000 coins needed for £5)
- Maximum coins from walking: 100 per day
- Days needed: 200 days
- Earnings: £5 every 6-7 months
- Hourly rate: Less than 1p per hour of walking
Scenario 2: Walking + All Bonus Activities (Best Case)
- Walking coins: 100 per day
- Lucky boxes: ~50 coins per day average (3 boxes)
- Scratch cards: ~20 coins per day
- Daily total: ~170 coins
- Days needed for £5: 118 days (about 4 months)
- Earnings: £5 every 4 months (£15/year)
Scenario 3: If You Get Lucky on a Lucky Box (Rare)
- If you win 10,000 coins from a lucky box: Could cash out much faster
- But this is extremely rare – most users never win the big prizes
Time Investment Reality
Consider that you’re:
- Opening the app daily (2-3 minutes)
- Watching 3-6 adverts per day (3-5 minutes)
- Dealing with lock screen ads constantly
- Playing games or completing surveys for extra coins
Total time investment: 5-10 minutes daily
At £5 every 4 months (best case scenario), you’re earning about £0.04 per day or roughly £0.008 per minute of active app engagement. That’s less than 1p per minute.
For context, you’d earn far more spending that same 5-10 minutes daily on survey sites like Prolific or Swagbucks.

Pros and Cons of CashWalk
Pros
- It’s free to use – No upfront costs or subscription fees
- Automatic step tracking – Once set up, it tracks in the background
- Multiple ways to earn – Not limited to just walking
- Legitimate payouts – Some people do successfully cash out gift cards
- Motivation to walk – Can encourage you to hit daily step goals

Cons
- Drastically increased redemption thresholds – Now 5-10x higher than when launched
- Extremely low earning potential – Takes 4-6+ months for just £5
- Intrusive lock screen ads – Bombards you with advertisements
- Requires lock screen ads active – App won’t track properly without them
- 100 coin daily cap – Can’t earn more even if you walk 30,000+ steps
- Inconsistent thresholds – Different users see different redemption requirements
- No transparency – Thresholds change without warning or explanation
- Poor customer service – Reports of unanswered emails and support requests
- Battery drain – Constant background tracking uses significant battery

Better Alternatives to CashWalk
If you’re looking to earn money by walking, here are significantly better options for UK users:
1. Macadem (My Top Recommendation)
Macadem is a UK-based walking app that’s far more generous than CashWalk. You earn points for every 1,000 steps, and the redemption thresholds are much more reasonable. I’ve personally had great success with Macadem and find it far less frustrating.
Why it’s better: Higher earning potential, clearer redemption rates, UK-focused, better user experience.
2. Sweatcoin
Sweatcoin converts your outdoor steps into a digital currency. You can exchange Sweatcoins for products, services, or donate to charity. Whilst the rewards aren’t cash, they’re more attainable than CashWalk.
Why it’s better: More transparent, established longer, bigger rewards catalogue, outdoor steps only (more valuable).
3. Evidation (formerly Achievement)
Evidation pays you for healthy activities tracked through various fitness apps. You earn points for walking, logging food, sleep tracking, and more. Points convert to actual cash paid via PayPal.
Why it’s better: Direct PayPal cash payments, multiple activity types, reasonable thresholds, established company.
4. Stepbet
Stepbet is different – you bet on yourself to meet personalised step goals over several weeks. If you succeed, you win money from the pool of players who didn’t meet their goals.
Why it’s better: Actual cash prizes, highly motivating, personalised goals, social accountability.
5. WeWard
WeWard is a French app that’s now available in the UK. You earn “Wards” for walking, which can be exchanged for gift cards or donated to charity.
Why it’s better: More generous rewards, clearer structure, better app design.
6. Survey Sites Instead
Honestly, you’d earn more spending 10 minutes on Prolific, Swagbucks, or YouGov surveys than you would in months of CashWalk. Consider these instead:
- Prolific – £5-10+ per hour on academic surveys
- Swagbucks – Various ways to earn including surveys, cashback, videos
- YouGov – £50 for 5,000 points (about 2-3 months of occasional surveys)
Is CashWalk Worth It in 2025?
No, CashWalk is not worth it for UK users in 2025.
Whilst it’s technically a legitimate app that does pay out, the earning potential has been slashed to almost nothing. The combination of dramatically increased redemption thresholds, intrusive lock screen ads, daily caps, and poor customer service makes it one of the worst walking apps available.
Who Might Still Want to Use It?
The only scenario where CashWalk might be worth considering:
- You’re already using multiple walking apps and want to “stack” rewards
- You don’t mind the lock screen ads at all
- You have realistic expectations (£5 every 4-6+ months)
- You get lucky with the daily prize boxes
- You have literally no other option for earning
Even then, I’d still recommend using that time and phone battery on better alternatives.
The Bottom Line
CashWalk started with promise but has become increasingly user-unfriendly. The constant moving of goal posts, lack of transparency, and minimal payouts make it frustrating rather than rewarding.
My recommendation: Skip CashWalk and use Macadem, Evidation, or Sweatcoin instead. Or better yet, spend that 10 minutes daily on Prolific surveys where you’ll earn actual money at a reasonable rate.
If you’re determined to try CashWalk despite this review, at least go in with realistic expectations. Don’t expect to earn meaningful money, and be prepared for the redemption threshold to increase just as you’re about to cash out.
Frequently Asked Questions About CashWalk
Is CashWalk legit?
Yes, CashWalk is technically legitimate – it’s a real company that does pay out gift cards. However, the redemption thresholds have increased so dramatically (from 3,750 to 20,000-50,000 coins for £5) that many users consider it practically unusable. You won’t be scammed, but you also probably won’t earn anything meaningful.
How much can you make with CashWalk?
With current UK thresholds, you can expect to earn around £5 every 4-6 months if you maximise your daily coins. That works out to roughly £10-15 per year. Given the time investment and battery drain, this is an extremely poor return.
What is CashWalk?
CashWalk is a fitness app that pays you in coins for walking. You earn 1 coin per 100 steps (maximum 100 coins daily), and can redeem coins for gift cards from retailers like Amazon, Tesco, and ASDA. However, the redemption thresholds have increased significantly, making it very difficult to cash out.
How many coins do you need for £5 on CashWalk UK?
This varies between users, but current reports show UK users need anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 coins for a £5 gift card. This has increased from the original 3,750 coins. At 100 coins per day maximum, you’re looking at 200-500 days of walking 10,000 steps daily.
Does CashWalk work without lock screen ads?
No, CashWalk requires lock screen ads to be enabled for proper step tracking when your phone is locked. If you disable the lock screen feature, the app won’t count your steps unless your phone is unlocked, making it essentially useless.
What are the best alternatives to CashWalk?
Better UK alternatives include Macadem (my top recommendation), Sweatcoin, Evidation, WeWard, and Stepbet. Alternatively, you’ll earn more spending 10 minutes on survey sites like Prolific or Swagbucks than you would in months on CashWalk.
Can you cash out CashWalk to PayPal?
CashWalk primarily offers gift cards rather than PayPal cash. Some users report PayPal being an option, but it’s not consistently available for UK users. Most redemptions are for Amazon, Tesco, ASDA, and other retailer vouchers.
Why does CashWalk keep increasing the redemption threshold?
CashWalk hasn’t publicly explained why redemption thresholds keep increasing. Many users believe it’s to reduce payout obligations whilst still generating ad revenue. The lack of transparency and advance notice about these changes is one of the main complaints from users.
Is CashWalk available in the UK?
Yes, CashWalk is available in the UK on both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play). However, the app was temporarily removed from the Google Play Store in early 2025, causing access issues for Android users. It has since returned, but some users report lost balances.
How long does it take to earn £5 on CashWalk?
With current UK redemption thresholds of 20,000-50,000 coins, it takes anywhere from 4 months to over a year of daily walking (hitting the 100 coin maximum) to earn a single £5 voucher. This assumes thresholds don’t increase further during that time.

It used to be a good walking app with pay outs every couple of months, but in the last year, they keep requesting more and more points to exchange for a £5 voucher. It was 3750 as it stated in the description. (once they had an offer for UK customers when it cost 1250 points), but later on went up to 5000/10000 and at the moment is 20.000 points, which makes not possible to reach a £5 voucher maybe twice a year or even less. So personally not recommend any more this app.
Yeah, it’s deffo not a GOOD payer and annoying to have to click to cash in. Macadem is much better as it’s easier to cash your steps in.
