We’ve been Sky customers for five years. My husband has the Sky VIP app on his phone and has never once opened it. I’d never looked at it either. So when I sat down to write this post, I actually went into the app properly for the first time to see what we were apparently missing out on.
Here’s what I found — and my honest take on whether Sky VIP is actually worth anything.

What Is Sky VIP?
Sky VIP is Sky’s loyalty programme. It’s free, you don’t need to sign up for it separately, and if you’re a Sky customer you’re already in it. The whole thing works through the Sky app — you just go to the Sky VIP section and you’ll see your current tier and whatever offers are available to you.
The benefits you get depend on how long you’ve been a continuous Sky customer (TV, Mobile, Broadband, or Sky Talk all count). The longer you’ve been with them, the higher your tier.
Sky VIP Tiers
- Silver — 0 to 3 years
- Gold — 3 to 8 years
- Platinum — 8 to 15 years
- Diamond — 15+ years
We’re currently Gold, which feels like it should mean something after five years of paying our Sky bill every month. More on whether it actually does in a minute.
What You Get at Each Level
Silver (0–3 years)
A free movie as a welcome gift when you first join. Access to prize draws for things like Premier League tickets, F1 British Grand Prix hospitality, and film premieres. These aren’t guaranteed — you apply and hope — but the fact they’re available at all isn’t bad.
Gold (3–8 years)
Everything above, plus free Sky Go Extra — which is usually £5 a month. Sky Go Extra lets you download shows and films over wifi to watch offline, without needing a connection. If you travel or commute a lot and you’re already paying for Sky Cinema or a Sports package, this is genuinely useful.
Platinum (8–15 years)
Everything above, plus free Sky Fibre broadband and a boost to your Sky Piggybank (where unused mobile data gets stored and can be converted into rewards). If you’re on Sky Mobile, the Piggybank can actually add up.
Diamond (15+ years)
Everything above, plus free Sky Q set-up and priority VIP technical support. Long way off for most people.
So Is Sky VIP Actually Worth It?
The honest answer: the free stuff is a nice bonus, but it doesn’t really make up for the bigger issue with Sky, which is that they consistently treat new customers better than loyal ones.
We’re Gold tier after five years. We get Sky Go Extra for free and we can enter prize draws. Meanwhile, Sky regularly runs deals for brand new customers — cheaper monthly prices, free upgrades, better packages — that existing customers don’t get access to. So you can be a Diamond member with 15+ years of loyalty and still be paying more per month than someone who just joined.
The frustrating reality is that if you cancel your Sky subscription and re-sign up as a new customer, you’ll almost certainly get a better deal than staying put and climbing the VIP tiers. That feels backwards.
Sky VIP is worth using if you’re already a customer — open the app and claim whatever’s available, because it costs you nothing. Free cinema tickets and prize draw entries are fine. But I wouldn’t factor it into whether you decide to stay with Sky or not. The monthly price negotiation matters a lot more than the loyalty perks.
If your contract is coming up for renewal, call Sky and ask what they can do — or threaten to cancel. That tends to unlock better deals than anything the VIP programme offers.
