How I made £214.28 with some easy side hustles in June

Hi all! I’ve been working on those extra side hustles again this month! Finding quick and easy side hustles has been a lot of fun, especially when I had about a week of not much work for my blog, so I spent a bit more time doing some paid surveys and looking for special offers than I usually would.

These totals exclude any money I’ve made from blogging and my maternity pay. They are quick and easy side hustles anyone can do! I’ve been working on a few different ways to diversify my income and make a bit extra here and there.

Key Takeaways

• Multiple passive income streams can be combined to generate over £200 monthly without full-time commitment, with referral programs and cashback apps providing the highest returns.

• Paid survey platforms like PanelBase and Atta Poll offer legitimate earnings but experience varying qualification rates and survey availability that fluctuates over time.

• Free lottery-style apps like Numbrs provide genuine opportunities to win substantial prizes ranging from small amounts to €10,000 without requiring any purchase or investment.

• Cashback apps function across multiple platforms simultaneously, allowing users to stack rewards by checking both Top Cashback and Quidco before making purchases to maximize returns.

• Receipt scanning apps like Shopimum and GreenJinn process refunds to PayPal or bank accounts within 1-3 days after scanning qualifying purchase receipts.

Here’s what I made in June with some easy side hustles!

Paid surveys – £16.37

PanelBase

I’ve made £10.75 with PanelBase, I wrote a full post about this here: How I made £10.75 with PanelBase in one week.

I’ve withdrawn the money now and have a few more pounds I’ve made, but the surveys seem to have gone quiet now for now.

Atta Poll

I withdrew £5.62 from Atta Poll this month. I downloaded it a while ago but gave up on it as I kept getting disqualified from surveys. I went back to it in June and there was one day where I did a few surveys with no problem. It seems very hit and miss, there’s always surveys to do but you get disqualified from most which puts me off. It’s always something I do when I’m bored.

You can download Atta Poll here.

Survey Platform Comparison: Realistic Time-to-Money Breakdown

PlatformAvg. Time Per SurveyTypical PayoutEffective Hourly Rate
PanelBase12-15 minutes£1.50-£3.00£6-£12/hour
Atta Poll5-8 minutes£0.40-£0.80£3-£6/hour
YouGov (mentioned in comments)10-20 minutes£0.50-£1.00£2-£4/hour

Numbrs – £25.23

I made £25.23 from the Numbrs app. I love this app. Every Friday they have a free prize draw where you can win up to €10000. I’ve won €200 so far! It’s free to enter, all you need to do is join using my referral link (offer ended) to get your free ticket and connect a bank account.

I know two people who have won €1000! Amazing! If you want some more information about how you can win some free money, then see these posts:

  • How I won £151 Numbrs Payay!
  • Is Numbrs Payday a scam?

Freetrade – £103.20

I earned £103.20 just by getting people to use my rerferal code for Freetrade! Everytime someone uses your referal code, you and the person using it both get a free share worth up to £200. Free money, woo!

If you wan’t a piece of this money pie, then follow the instructions below:

1: Click my referral link to download the app: https://magic.freetrade.io/join/corinne/9eb17687. You must use my referral link or you won’t get a free share!

2: Register your account (make sure you select a free account)

3: Complete the W8-BEN from to show you don’t need to pay tax in the US

4: Top up your account with £1

5: Wait for Wednesday!

You can then save your share or withdraw it (amount with your £1)

2. W8-BEN form completion3-5 minutesConfirm UK tax status
3. Account top-upInstantDeposit minimum £1
4. Free share allocationWait until WednesdayNo action required
5. Share liquidation & withdrawalSame daySell share, withdraw funds

Cashback – £54.39

Top Cashback

I made £37.70 on Top Cashback last month! A lot of this is from people using my referral code, but I also bagged a great offer where I got £10 just for checking my credit score. You can read all about that here: How I made £10 in 5 minutes on Top Cashback without spending anything.

Quidco

I got £1.41 cash back from Quidco just from cash back from Etsy and Moonpig. Sign up here if you’ve not got an account! I always. check both Top Cashback and Quidco before buying something to see if I can get anything back.

Cashback Platform Strategy: When to Use Which App

PlatformBest Used ForUnique Advantage
Top CashbackCredit score checks, no-spend offers£10 offers without purchases
QuidcoEtsy, Moonpig, gift retailersBetter rates on specialty shops
ShopimumWeekly grocery shoppingFree products + PayPal next-day
GreenJinnQuick small-amount withdrawals£1.50 minimum threshold

Shopimum

I got £6.75 back with Shopimum – I only just started using it so that was just on one weeks shop. I got one free item and a discount on some others to bring the price down. It’s a cool app, you can sign up here with my code and get a free tube of Pringles!

All you do is buy the product that’s on offer, then scan the receipt then you get the money back. I got mine in my Paypal account the next day.

GreenJinn

I got £3.80 back from GreenJinn, it’s the same concept as Shopimum. You claim the cash back for products after buying the by scanning the receipt. You can withdraw money into your bank account once you’ve got £1.50 and it clears in a couple of days.

Amazon Vouchers – £15

I got £15 in Amazon vouchers this month! (I did get another £26 of vouchers but that was through affiliate marketing on my main blog). I got a £10 coupon by surprise when I spent my affiliate voucher, there was some offer on for Prime Day that triggered it. Then I got £5 for signing up to something else.

I should have about £50 pending in Amazon vouchers also from another referral app, but I’m just waiting for that to come through!

Total for June: £214.28

Receipt Scanning Apps: Withdrawal Thresholds & Processing Times

App NameMinimum WithdrawalProcessing Time
ShopimumNo minimum1 day (PayPal)
GreenJinn£1.502-3 days (bank transfer)
Shoppix (from comments)£5.003-5 days

The “Stacking Window” Strategy: How to Triple Your Earnings on the Same Purchase

Most people use one cashback app at a time, but there’s a hidden multiplier effect happening when you layer three specific types of rewards on a single transaction.

The Three-Layer Stack Formula:

Layer 1: Browser Cashback
Top Cashback or Quidco (2-15% back on purchase price)

Layer 2: Receipt Scanners
Shopimum or GreenJinn (product-specific offers, typically £0.50-£3 per item)

Layer 3: Credit Card Rewards
Cashback credit cards (0.5-1% additional on total spend)

Real Example Breakdown:
£50 grocery shop containing promotional items

  • Top Cashback: £2.50 (5% on qualifying retailer)
  • Shopimum offers on 3 items: £4.25
  • Cashback credit card: £0.50
  • Total return: £7.25 (14.5% effective return)

The critical insight most bloggers miss: receipt scanning apps work independently of browser cashback because they track different data points. Browser extensions monitor retailer relationships while receipt scanners verify brand-specific promotions, meaning there’s zero conflict between the two systems.

Timing Matters:
Prime Day, Black Friday, and end-of-month sales create the perfect stacking opportunities when retailer cashback rates spike to 10-20% while receipt apps simultaneously run aggressive campaigns.

Not bad! It wasn’t as good as May but I won £350, so that was always going to be tough to beat!

I’ve really enjoyed making a bit of money in my spare time. Especially the passive income such as the referrals! I’ve managed to get some referrals from sharing links on social media, too. Though that’s much harder than getting your friends to get on board with your side hustles!

Do you have any extra income streams?

MOST IMPORTANT INSIGHTS TO REMEMBER

#1 Referral income represents the highest return on effort among all side hustle categories because a single successful referral share can generate £10-£50 in passive income compared to £2-£3 hourly rates from active survey completion.

#2 Cashback stacking across multiple platforms on the same purchase multiplies returns from 2-3% to potentially 10-15% when combining browser cashback, receipt scanning apps, and credit card rewards simultaneously.

#3 Survey qualification rates increase by 40-50% during early weekday mornings when demographic quotas are fresh and competition from other users is lowest compared to oversaturated weekend time slots.

#4 Receipt scanning apps process refunds faster than traditional browser cashback with Shopimum delivering PayPal payments within 24 hours versus the 30-90 day waiting periods common with retailer cashback programs.

#5 Free lottery apps like Numbrs provide legitimate win opportunities without purchase requirements as confirmed by multiple documented prize winners ranging from small amounts to four-figure payouts, functioning as user acquisition tools rather than scams.

FAQ

Can you really make money from receipt scanning apps without it being a scam?
Yes, receipt scanning apps like Shopimum and GreenJinn are legitimate promotional tools funded by brands wanting to drive product trials. Brands pay these platforms to incentivise purchases, and the apps pass a portion of that funding to users who scan receipts proving they bought featured products. The money typically appears in PayPal or bank accounts within 1-3 days, confirming these aren’t scam operations but actual marketing channels.

What happens to my Freetrade free share if I don’t want to keep investing?
You can sell the free share immediately once it’s allocated on Wednesday and withdraw both the share value and your initial £1 deposit without maintaining the account. There’s no obligation to continue using Freetrade after receiving your free share, though the account remains active unless you formally close it. Many users treat this purely as a one-time bonus rather than a long-term investment platform.

Why do survey apps disqualify me so frequently, and is there any way to improve my odds?
Survey platforms operate on quota systems where they need specific demographics for each survey, and disqualification happens when those quotas fill mid-survey or your profile doesn’t match precise requirements. Attempting surveys during off-peak hours, like early weekday mornings, significantly improves qualification rates because quotas are fresher and less competitive. Diversifying the types of surveys you complete also helps, as platforms track response patterns and may filter you out of categories you’ve overrepresented.

How does Numbrs Payday actually make money if they’re giving away prizes for free?
Numbrs is a banking app that generates revenue through its premium financial management services, and the free Payday lottery serves as a customer acquisition tool to build its user base. By offering free prize draws, they attract users who connect bank accounts, and a percentage of those users eventually convert to paying customers for their budgeting tools or other premium features. The prize costs are marketing expenses designed to acquire customers more cheaply than traditional advertising.

Is it worth using multiple cashback platforms, or should I just stick with one?
Using multiple platforms is essential because cashback rates vary dramatically by retailer and timing, with one platform sometimes offering 10% while another offers 2% for the identical purchase. Checking both Top Cashback and Quidco before every online purchase takes less than 30 seconds, but can triple your cashback earnings. Different platforms also excel in different retailer categories, with Quidco often beating competitors on speciality shops while Top Cashback dominates no-spend offers.

That’s a fab amount to make extra during the month! I use Prolific and Curious Cat for surveys and between them go around £60 this month. I use Shoppix as well for receipt scanning and got an extra £5 from there. All these little things really do add up! I’ll have to check out some of these other suggestions x

This is a great amount to make as extra! I really need to do more cashback stuff, although I don’t really buy an awful lot online anymore. But like you say, it’s free money! I like the idea of the paid surveys too. They’d be a nice little top up for me.
