What Is Asda Rewards?
Asda Rewards is Asda’s loyalty scheme, which launched in August 2022. Unlike traditional points-based systems, you earn pounds (actual money) that accumulate in your Cashpot.

How Does the Asda Rewards Card Work?
The Asda loyalty card is entirely digital — there’s no physical card. Everything happens through the Asda Rewards app.
Setting up:
- Download the Asda Rewards app (iOS or Android)
- Register with your email address and create a password
- Link to your Asda online account if you have one
- Add the digital card to your Apple Wallet or Google Pay (optional but makes it quicker)
- Start earning immediately
Takes about 5 minutes total.
Three main ways to earn:
1. Star Products (10% cashback) Throughout the store, you’ll find products marked as Star Products. Buy these and you automatically get 10% of the cost added to your Cashpot. There are typically 400+ Star Products available at any time — Asda Extra Special products, branded items, fresh fruit and vegetables, George clothing occasionally, household essentials. The selection changes regularly.
2. Super Star Products (higher cashback) These are products with boosted cashback — usually £1-3 per item rather than just 10%. Super Stars change frequently and often align with seasonal shopping (back to school, Christmas). Recent examples: £2.50 back on Andrex mega packs, £2 back on washing powder, £3 back on specific George clothing items.
3. Missions (complete tasks for bonuses) Missions are the best way to earn larger amounts quickly. Common examples: spend £50 in one shop = £1 bonus, buy 10 items of fruit and veg = £1 bonus, spend £25 on George clothing = £5 bonus. Multiple missions can run simultaneously, so you can stack the rewards in one shop.
Worth noting: missions have become less generous since launch. Early days saw more frequent and valuable missions. Still worth doing, just not as abundant as they were.
How to Use It at Checkout
In-store:
- Open the Asda Rewards app
- Show your barcode at the till BEFORE items are scanned
- Cashier scans your barcode
- Shop as normal
- Rewards automatically credited to your Cashpot
Important: scan before items are scanned, not after. If you forget, you can’t add rewards retrospectively (though customer service sometimes helps if you call).
Online: Your Asda Rewards account automatically links to your online shopping account. Rewards are applied automatically at checkout — no scanning needed.
Converting Cashpot to Vouchers
Your Cashpot is a balance. To spend it, you convert it into vouchers.
- Open the app → go to your Cashpot → click “Create Voucher”

Expiry dates — this is where people get caught out:

My personal experience as a regular Asda shopper:

Realistic annual savings:
- Heavy Asda shopper (weekly shop of £80-100): £200-300 per year if you pay attention; £100-150 if you don’t actively hunt missions

For context: at Tesco, a £100 shop earns 100 Clubcard points = £1 value. At Asda, a £100 shop with Star Products = £3-8 value depending on what you buy. So Asda Rewards can be more generous than Clubcard, but it requires actively buying Star Products and completing missions. Clubcard is passive — you just get points regardless.
Asda Rewards vs Other Loyalty Schemes
vs Tesco Clubcard Asda wins on potential earnings per shop (if you complete missions) and clearer value (actual pounds vs points). Tesco wins on being completely passive, points not expiring as quickly, and Boost vouchers where you get 3x value with partners. My take: Tesco Clubcard is more reliable. Asda Rewards offers higher potential but requires effort.
vs Sainsbury’s Nectar Similar potential value. Asda missions can add up quickly; Nectar works across more partners (Argos, eBay, etc.). Choose based on where you shop.
vs Lidl Plus Lidl’s base prices are lower to start with, so even with Asda Rewards, Lidl often works out cheaper overall. The Lidl Plus app has weekly scratch cards and coupons that are very quick wins. Different proposition entirely.
Common Problems (and What to Do)
Forgot to scan at checkout: Call customer services (0800 952 0101) with your receipt. They sometimes add rewards manually, but it’s not guaranteed and you might be on hold a while. Best solution is making it a habit — barcode out before joining the queue.
Rewards not appearing: Usually appears within 24 hours. Check you bought the exact right product (variants matter — “Asda Chicken Breast 500g” won’t trigger if the Star Product was “Asda Chicken Breast 300g”). Contact customer services if still missing after 48 hours.
App won’t scan: Screenshot your barcode and use that instead, or add it to Apple/Google Wallet. Restart the app and make sure you’re on the latest version.
Cashpot expired: The most common complaint. Set a recurring monthly reminder to check your Cashpot balance and expiry dates. Don’t stockpile — use it regularly.
Vouchers expired: Only create vouchers when you’re about to shop. Don’t create a £100 voucher if you won’t spend that much imminently.
The Asda Money Credit Card
There’s also an Asda Money Credit Card that earns additional Rewards: 1% cashback on Asda spending and 0.3% on everything else, paid as Asda Pounds into your Cashpot.
Only worth it if you shop at Asda regularly (£100+ per month), clear your credit card in full every month, and don’t already have a better cashback credit card. For most people, the regular app is enough.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of It
Check missions before you shop. Open the app and look at active missions before going. You can plan your shop around completing them.
Stack with other offers. Product on rollback or yellow sticker? You still get Asda Rewards on top.
Use online shopping to prep. It’s easier to check which items are Star Products before adding to basket online than it is to check in-store on your phone while pushing a trolley.
Screenshot your barcode. Save it to photos — faster than opening the app every time.
Set expiry reminders. Monthly calendar reminder to check your Cashpot. Takes 30 seconds and stops you losing money.
Is It Worth It?
Get it if you shop at Asda regularly and have a smartphone. It’s free, it adds up over time, and once you get in the habit of scanning, it’s no effort.
Less worth it if you only shop there occasionally, or if your weekly shop is mainly at Aldi or Lidl where the base prices are lower and the savings from Asda Rewards wouldn’t compensate for the price difference.
My honest verdict: it’s a decent loyalty scheme and worth having if you’re an Asda shopper anyway. The savings are real but modest. The expiry dates are annoying. The missions have become less generous since launch. But it’s better than nothing, and better than just paying full price with no return.
